Bye-Bye Dubaï was the first project built around my compositions, written and performed in English. It took many forms: piano/synths/voice solo, a cello/synths duo, progressive rock, etc. And I played with many different artists… I guess I needed to centre myself. So I created this new band under my own name, “Wendy Martinez”, which gave me more freedom. I’ve performed with almost the same band since the beginning, all good friends of mine.Bye-Bye Dubaï a été le premier projet construit autour de mes compositions, écrites et interprétées en anglais. Il a pris beaucoup de formes : piano/synthés/voix en solo, duo violoncelle/synthés, rock progressif, etc. Et j’ai joué avec beaucoup d’artistes différents… Je crois que j’avais besoin de me recentrer. Alors j’ai créé ce nouveau groupe sous mon propre nom, « Wendy Martinez », ce qui m’a donné plus de liberté. Also habe ich diese neue Band unter meinem eigenen Namen gegründet, „Wendy Martinez“, was mir mehr Freiheit gab. Ha preso molte forme: piano/synth/voce in solo, un duo violoncello/synth, rock progressivo, ecc. E ho suonato con tanti artisti diversi… Credo di aver avuto bisogno di ritrovare me stessa. Così ho creato questa nuova band con il mio nome, «Wendy Martinez», che mi ha dato più libertà. I composed the songs alone, but they were finished by other people who really contributed to the sound. For “Flowers”, which was a really important song for me at the time, I was helped by Elie Granger, who recorded and arranged it with multiple sound designs and ambiences that perfectly illustrated my words… He responded really well to Agharta’s brief, and I think he made it a perfect song for a video game! His work is part of the reason people loved this song so much; he made it so dreamy… Jonathan Girerd, the drummer of Bye-Bye Dubaï, played the drums, and I recorded the piano part I wrote.J’ai composé les chansons seule, mais elles ont été finalisées par d’autres personnes qui ont beaucoup apporté au son. Pour « Flowers », une chanson vraiment importante pour moi à l’époque, j’ai été aidée par Elie Granger, qui l’a enregistrée et arrangée avec plein de sound designs et d’ambiances qui illustraient parfaitement mes mots… Il a très bien répondu à la demande d’Agharta, et je pense qu’il en a fait une chanson parfaite pour un jeu vidéo ! Son travail est en partie la raison pour laquelle les gens ont tant aimé cette chanson ; il l’a rendue si onirique… Jonathan Girerd, le batteur de Bye-Bye Dubaï, a joué la batterie, et j’ai enregistré la partie de piano que j’avais écrite.Ich habe die Lieder allein komponiert, aber andere haben sie fertiggestellt und viel zum Klang beigetragen. For “Ahora”, I recorded the song with another bandmate I had at the time, Stéphane Souchon from the band Inlakesh, who played guitar. I had just come back from a trip to Mexico and I really wanted that kind of ambience. It was a long time ago, but I think it was a friend of a friend of the drummer, Jonathan Girerd, who introduced us! I think I wrote this song especially for the video game. Agharta asked me to speak about amnesia.
