    Félicienne

Also known as Miss Félicienne Garbe

    Part 1 · St Jeoire

Félicienne rings Louis at home to make sure he has the photos for Mr Belleville’s file and hasn’t forgotten the appointment. When he gets to the shop she is balanced on a chair, a phone book and a big book, changing a bulb, and too scared to come down until he fetches the ladder.

Safely on the floor, she tells him at length about her fear of heights and boats: her father had a summer cottage on a little island surrounded by cliffs and statues, and took her out in his boat. Louis gets rid of her by lighting a cigarette, which she can’t stand, and she announces Belleville’s arrival.

Part 3 · Back in St Jeoire

Louis finds her crying in the back room of the ransacked shop. She photographed the damage, gives him his camera, and has nothing kind to say about Anne, “never there when you need her”. Her handbag holds her medication, Trankill 2000.

    Part 5 · Anne’s trail

At the funeral she insists on looking after Louis, and then on coming with him to Paris. She waits for him in room 315 at the Hôtel des Lilas, dressed up, and is delighted when he invites her to dinner at the Tour d’Ivoire and a club.

She refuses outright to go to a partner-swapping club, until Louis spills her glass and swaps her medication for something stronger. At the EXIT he leaves her with a man who wants to show her his boat; she escapes, furious, and declares she will never leave Louis’ side again.

She follows him to Alex’s building and is terrified by what they find there.

In the cave beneath the EXIT she appears at Belleville’s side, begging Louis not to listen to Saint Arman. Moments later she is shot in the head.

The doctors on the Damocles explain that Belleville created Félicienne, and that her nerves and her pills were there to remind Louis to take his.
