    Interview with Ida Landsberg

    Ida Landsberg
“Sometimes you are hit by music without really knowing why.”
    Ida Landsberg

Did you write the lyrics yourself, or contribute to them in any way?

I wrote the lyrics and “melody” of both songs, “Song For Her” and “Feldweg”. Dimitri Pachkov made all of the music and assembled the notes and melody lines. He also came up with the titles of the songs.

Are there any notable experiences from recording the songs?

The collaboration was quite unusual, because it wasn’t simultaneous work but different pieces put together one after another. We never met to compose. He worked from Lyon and I from Tuscany. He used to send me patterns as ideas, I recorded some random voice lines with lyrics and sent them back to him. Based on those voices he changed the music, cut up the voice lines and made a big mosaic of voice and sound.

When did recording start, and how were you approached to do the vocals?

I don’t remember exactly. Usually we recorded the music at the same time the next episode of the game was being written.

What were your main inspirations, given that most of your discography is jazz?

The inspiration for me was similar to yours, actually: my enthusiasm for Dimitri Pachkov’s music. I loved 1112 as a simple app user and fell especially in love with the main track in Episode 01, which was Dimitri Pachkov’s. As a singer I had a strong wish to collaborate with him and create music together, so I contacted him. He answered and we started to collaborate.

It had nothing to do with my usual genres like jazz or bossa nova, so my main inspiration was the sound of Dimitri Pachkov’s music itself, which I wished to complete with my voice. Sometimes you are hit by music without really knowing why. I found his tunes very touching, modern and unusual, creative, minimalistic but rich at the same time, so I felt I wanted to be a part of it.

“Feldweg” contains French lyrics we haven’t been able to transcribe. Could you tell us what they are?

I will see if I can find them again and send them to you later.

Were you asked to do a track for Episode 04?

I don’t remember very well, but I don’t think so. The creator of the game had chosen a music group based in France, I think.

We can’t find any other music by Dimitri Pachkov. Is he using a new stage name?

It’s been a long time since we were in contact, so the best thing would be to contact him and ask. I agree he is a very skilled sound designer and composer.
